Drive to Zoji La pass from Srinagar
It was around middle of July 2022 when we drove to Leh from Srinagar. The Amarnath yatra was in full swing. On the streets of Srinagar, we experienced the heavy security that was deployed to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. The sheer number of people who undertake this yatra has to be seen to understand the scale of this grand phenomenon.
Mountain ranges on way to Zoji La pass
The drive in the mountain ranges to Zoji La pass from Srinagar was spectacular to say the least. After a while, our driver pointed us to the valley which housed the camp set up for the pilgrims who do Amarnath yatra. Again, the sheer scale of this camp was intimidating. Now there is a helicopter service from this camp in the valley to Amarnath. We were told that it is a short flight. We could see several choppers do these rides carrying the pilgrims.
It was heartening to see a large number of motorcycle riders as well as few cyclists taking up the mountain challenge.
